name: retreat center
location: buena vista, colorado
TASK: ideas for master plan and develop a scheme for fundraising. This site’s owners envision a retreat center for those involved in Christian ministry. A place to pull back, recharge their batteries and gain new vigor and perspective.
Here’s where it starts. A blank canvas with some parameters for the desired end product. Utilize the mountain views, a get away for contemplation and recharging, physically, emotionally, spiritually. Things along these lines. The challenge: to translate emotions and feelings into concrete, timber, glass and drywall. To be a part of the land and not just on it.
This project is currently in the fund raising stages.

name: deck addition
location: arvada, colorado
TASK: to add an upper level deck, including private access by the owners, shading for the deck below and consideration for the existing structure below, while adding creative elements.
This scheme is a basic deck structure although there is nothing that is ever basic in remodeling.
Stone piers match the character of the house and heavy timbers anchor the structure visually as well as structurally.
This scheme is much more complicated.
Again, it preserves the anchoring with larger stone piers and also adds an overhead structure that provides shade. The challenge with this design is tying it into the existing roof.
The idea behind this scheme is a “retreat”. The actual deck structure serves more as a bridge, while the supporting members still provide ample shade for the deck below.
The destination is an elevated gazebo where one can take in views of the house as well as surrounding mountains.
